While Danny Elfman can at times sound like a pale imitation of himself, when he's on top of his game, his scores are very exciting stuff and his early scores with longtime collaborator Tim Burton on films like "Beetlejuice," "Batman," and "Edward Scissorhands" were a breath of fresh air at the time and still remain excellent pieces of work.
In order to commemorate their 25 year history together, Warner Bros. is issuing the mother of all box sets. Spanning 16 discs, this limited edition set (there will only be 1,000 of them made) will not only give you Elfman's soundtracks to each of his films to date with Tim Burton, it will also include rarities such as additional masters, cut songs, song and score demos, work tapes, orchestra-only song mixes, and foreign-language songs. And that's not all, it will all come housed in the fancy pants box you see pictured above, which will also include a hardcover book "Danse Macabre: 25 Years of Danny Elfman and Tim Burton" with a foreword by Johnny Depp, an hour long DVD with Burton and Elfman discussing their history together and other various goodies.
The box will be made available starting in December but if you want to make sure you get one, place your pre-order now. The box will set you back $499. [Collider]

Last week, Timur Bekmambetov and Tim Burton began shopping their revisionist historical action film "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" around Hollywood and 20th Century Fox wanted it. They really, really wanted it.
From parking signs in the Fox lot reading "Parking for Vampire Hunters Only, Park at your own risk" to bloody footprints lining the path all the way to the meeting room with Fox execs, some poor interns were busy at work making sure director Timur Bekmambetov and producer Tim Burton knew how badly their bosses wanted the film. Posters with images and lines from the book were put up on walls, and silver bullets were placed in a bowl at reception. And that's not all. Bloody axes were placed around the offices and a bugle player in a Confederate uniform played "Taps."
And yes, after all that, Fox's efforts were rewarded and they did land the film. Based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith ("Pride And Prejudice And Zombies"), the story spins the familiar history of Abraham Lincoln, but casts him as a ruthless vampire killer. The film will be in 3D, has been okayed with a $69 million budget and will hit theaters in 2012.

Back in August, Timur Bekmambetov revealed that "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" would be his next directing gig and the project, produced by Tim Burton, is now headed out to studios to see who will bite.Based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith ("Pride And Prejudice And Zombies"), the story spins the familiar history of Abraham Lincoln, but casts him as a ruthless vampire killer. Last month, Bekmambetov said the film would shoot in the United States and he was eyeing a winter start date. As for what we can expect stylistically, Bekmambetov said, " If you remember 'Nightwatch,' it is maybe in the vein of that kind of movie." He also hopes to explore the world Grahame-Smith has created in potential sequels.
As for who will pick up the project, it remains to be seen. DreamWorks and Disney are said to be "out of the running" but the other big boys, Universal, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Bros. are still in play. It's definitely in the vein of revisionist history/fables that seems to be du jour in Hollywood and with Burton involved it should attract interest. [Vulture]
