False: Report Of Rooney Mara Injury On 'Dragon Tattoo' Set Evidently Untrue

Don't panic true believers. The sky is not falling. This morning a Swedish report making the rounds said Rooney Mara — the lead female in David Fincher's "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" — had "seriously injured" herself on the set of the movie, was hospitalized and the production had been shut down indefinitely.

Time to freak, Sony, producers, Scott Rudin, etc. right? The film is, after all, scheduled to shoot this fall and already has a release date of December 22, 2011.But Cinematical reached out to Sony today and apparently the story is completely false. Her raps tell THR the same thing; totally untrue. All is well that ends well (or actually never happened). As you were.

"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" stars Daniel Craig, Mara, Stellan Skarsgard and Robin Wright. According to IMDB, Swedish cinematographer Fredrik Bäckar is lensing the picture; his first time working with Fincher. Part of a trilogy based on a best-selling Swedish book -- not based on the Swedish film remakes -- the story centers on a journalist (Craig) aided in his search for a woman who has been missing -- or dead -- for forty years by a young female hacker (Mara).

Steven Zaillian adapted the screenplay from the original novel by Stieg Larsson (Zaillian's also an executive producer on the project) and while he's been one of the bigger screenwriters in Hollywood for years now — he won an Oscar for "Schindler's List" and was nominated for "Gangs of New York," and "Awakenings" — he's been white hot once again this year, having penned "Moneyball," 'Dragon Tattoo' as well as being hired to adapt the "Red Riding" trilogy — made into 3 brilliant U.K. films earlier this year — for Ridley Scott (plus myriad other high profile gigs). As of Spring 2010, the book had sold over 20 million copies in 41 countries, so Sony is really hoping these pictures will be a huge international hit.

People probably won't remember, but this has been a hot property for some time now and last summer it was reported that Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino were allegedly interested in acquiring the books. At least half of that is truth. Pitt was considered for the lead long before Craig came into the picture, but bowed out of the mix for unknown reasons.
