The franchise has helped launch the Hollywood careers of the talent involved. Michael Nyqvist has joined the next "Mission: Impossible" and director Niels Orden Oplev (who helmed 'Dragon Tattoo') is attached to the thriller "Good People" with Tobey Maguire producing and possibly starring. However, the biggest career boost has gone to Noomi Rapace as hacker Lisbeth Salander; she's become hotly in demand by everyone around Hollywood. She's landed a role in "Sherlock Holmes 2" following a round of meetings late this summer with various directors and studios. An Oscar campaign will also be launched by Music Box Films for her turn in 'Dragon Tattoo' so the question is, will this last installment also help those odds?
Rapace is pretty much a longshot even to get nominated, but with the books being a literary sensation and with heat around David Fincher's take on the material, stranger things have happened. We haven't been fans of the Swedish films -- at all -- but they have built a steady following on this side of the Atlantic. We'll see if that fervor infects the ranks of the Academy.
"The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest" opens in limited release on October 29th.
